When was the last time you received flowers or balloons that weren’t from your mom or significant other?

Probably never right?
This strategy is so simple, you’ll kick yourself for not having thought of it sooner. And it is so powerful that you’ll want to implement it beginning today.
When you have a new member join or one of your clients reaches a goal they’ve worked hard for, send them flowers or balloons to their work.
Yes, it might cost you a little bit. Balloon delivery will run you $25-40 and flowers for a decent sized wild flower assortment will probably cost around the same. But the power of this strategy far outweighs the cost.
Think about it.
Aside from the fact that your client is completely thrilled to receive the unexpected gift, what do you think happens to those around them? When someone gets flowers delivered, or someone sees flowers or balloons at their desk, the natural thing that everyone asks is:
Where did you get the flowers?
Think of the response they’re going to get:
“My personal trainer sent them to me because I lost 20 pounds”
“My gym sent them to me as a thank you for signing up for personal training/bootcamp”
Don’t you think that is going to stick in the mind of the co-workers? It will likely get them asking questions right away. They’ll recognize that you aren’t the typical gym or the typical trainer and that you REALLY care about your clients and members.
When your client comes in for their next appointment, you KNOW they’re going to be gushing about it. And they’ll likely say something about how everyone was so jealous that they received the gift.
That’s when you can either A) Give your member some gift cards to hand out to their co-workers, or B) Get the name of a manager or owner who you can work with to set up a group membership offer.
Even if nothing comes of the referral initially, you have now planted a seed in the mind of every co-worker that you are serious about your clients’ goals. When the time does come for them to find a fitness provider, they will start with YOU!

Curtis,
This method works extremely well. We get an average of 3 clients a month from this. It only works on the women though. For some reason men seem to not take a liking to this method.
Maybe the men would like a slab of ribs? lol
Or maybe a bottle of wine or a mini keg of beer? Isn’t it funny how I can’t think of anything healthy to send a man, instead I think of unhealthy food and grog?
Surely there is something a man would want that is big enough that people at work will ask about?
Awesome Post Curtis! Great info., makes me realize that there is always more I can GIVE!
Great idea Curtis. For men, a Starbucks or Barnes & Noble gift card works well.
Great idea…not only good for the member. But, what a way to network and trade with The “flower shop” Hmmmm.Ok for the men..hmm
I like the starbucks idea…but lets dig a little more…What about a local hardware store to trade with…uh oh…networking again:)
Awesome idea, can’t wait to give it a shot. Thanks Curtis!
Great stuff Curtis…. You always deliver! I know that each clients leads me to 2 more (referrals) on average so that would be a well spent $25.
Thanks
Awesome Idea Curtis,
What would work even better, although I haven’t tried it but once is to actually put about 10 of your gift cards in the arrangement itself, that way when people do come by and ask who got them the flowers, they can turn around and give their coworkers a 2 week free trial. I know that Dustin Maher has really had success doing this very thing. Infact, I saw an you tube video of him filming himself bringing a camper flowers, then posted it to his blog. Brilliant!!!
Great idea, Curtis. I usually send them a gift certificate to dinner at a high-end restaurant along with a couple of gift cards for 2-weeks free training, but I like the idea of sending flowers to the women instead.
Thanks!
I better send flowers to my wife first (since I haven’t done that in a long time).
She might think something’s going on if I start sending flowers to clients!

Curtis,
Great post! We are just starting to do this and will be excited to see how it goes. Here is a question for everyone, when the clients sign up are you asking them for their work address? or just knowing where they work and looking it up?
We don’t currently ask for the biz address…..
For reaching a goal, we give them a trophy that says Gold Coast Personal Training client of the month! Even grown adults want cool trophies and it will sit in their lounge room as a talking point for at least 10 years longer than flowers!
Crutis, that is a great idea. I can’t wait to start that with my training clients. I will have to start getting my clients biz address. I will have to let you know how is goes. Thanks for the great tip.
I use this and it is a cost effective way to increase members and have the name of my gym spread around.
I have an ongoing deal with the flower shops. I gave them pre-printed tags to put into the flowers.
For the men…
I have all my members fill out a hobbies and sports question….All I do is buy them something from this question..For example; if you tell me you like fishing I may purchase you a new rod..Simple as that.
I have only had one person bring the prize back because they said it was too expensive.
Good luck all…

great post Curtis…
every Valentines day I give out 6 dozen single roses to my female clients and other women at the gym. Do you think I stand out from the rest of the personal trainers there? I missed 1 year and a few of the female trainers got upset.
Great stuff Chris
